We continue to participate in Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. Through president Franklin Graham, Operation Christmas Child has been in existence since 1993. Last year OCC reached the goal of 100 million gift-filled boxes to distribute to the many destitute children around the world. This is a wonderful record, but there are always more children than boxes available.
Besides the shoebox gifts, children receive a booklet inside with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Know that your gift can make an eternal difference. We encourage you to pray for the children that will receive the boxes you fill. Inside each box is an instructional pamphlet on how to pack a shoebox.
Purchased items include toys – school supplies – hygiene items – clothing- watches- flashlights – sunglasses -balls – and wrapped candy. There are items that cannot be shipped, so read the instructional pamphlet well.
Donations for shipping are encouraged.
Boxes will be available in Fellowship Hall beginning in late October. Filled shoeboxes need to be returned to the church by a date in early November. You may use your own boxes (plastic boxes accepted) of any size wrapped with Christmas paper — just make sure to wrap the lid separately.
You may follow your box to the country it goes to by going on line to pay your postage and print out a special label. Also, many children like to know the family that they receive the box from and will sometimes correspond back. So include your name and address with a little information about yourself. And please remember to pray for your box’s child.
