Potter’s Hands Outreach Ministry
“The Potter’s Hands Outreach Ministry is a multiple church, Christ-centered, organization in Sierra Vista whose purpose is to assist homeless and economically disadvantaged people to help themselves.” Website: pottershandsoutreach.org.
Volunteers provide meals every Sunday afternoon to the homeless and needy. On the third Sunday of each month, a hot meal is provided at Ramada #1 in Veterans’ Park at 2:30. A van is dispatched to the desert to transport guests to the potluck. Over 100 guests are normally served on these Sundays. On all other Sundays, sack lunches are made up and delivered to their homes on the desert between 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m.
Many items are needed in addition to food. The list includes Bibles, tents/tarps, sleeping bags/blankets, socks, jeans and sweatpants, sweatshirts/winter jackets, long underwear, men’s boots, and winter gloves. Many of these items are donated in new or in gently used condition. Some of the items are purchased with donated money. There is a need for funding to assist in operating the van and buying all of the products needed to supply sack lunches and hot meals. SVUMC has donated many clothing items from the 2015 UMW Rummage Sale. The church also donates $50/month toward operation of the van.
Potter’s Hands also helps people transition into apartments or houses and provides training for basic living within a community.
Potter’s Hands is a 501 C 3 charitable, non-profit, faith-based outreach organization. It is supported by ten churches in the area, along with some businesses and many individuals. It has no paid staff. It is not in competition with, or at cross purposes with, Good Neighbor Alliance.
