Rev. Matt Ashley is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. He and his wife Felida are grateful to be part of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church.
Matt moved from Omaha, NE to Tucson when he was in third grade. He’s a lifelong United Methodist who was active in youth ministry growing up and then with the Wesley Foundation while an undergraduate at the University of Arizona.
While in college, Matt discerned a call into ministry and served as the youth director at Christ Church United Methodist for two years before attending Duke Divinity School in North Carolina. He graduated with a Master of Divinity in 1999 and returned to Arizona, where he was ordained as a transitional Deacon and began his ministry.
Over the next eighteen years, Matt served at churches in Gilbert, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Sedona, and Tucson. During that time he also returned to Duke for a year to earn a second master’s degree in theology.
Matt is active at the district and conference levels of the United Methodist Church, having served six years as the Central-East District Youth Coordinator earlier in his career. He currently serves as President of the Desert Southwest Annual Conference on Finance & Administration. He loves preaching and leading worship, and has a background in youth ministry.
Matt and Felida have been married since 2011. They love going to movies together, and both are enthusiastic Arizona Wildcat fans and season ticket holders. Matt is also a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, and enjoys the live theater. Felida has a background in nursing, is a lifelong sports fan, and is a dedicated bargain hunter. They are both animal lovers, and have two dogs at home – Darcy, a spirited dachshund mix, and Donald the Great & Terrible, a friendly basset hound.
Matt and Felida are grateful for the opportunity to be part of a dynamic, intergenerational church that helps people grow in faith, serves the poor, and helps make the lives of children, youth, and seniors in Sierra Vista better.
