Whether you want to learn English to improve your employment, to be able to talk with your child’s teacher, to communicate better with others, or to pass the citizenship exam, you may be interested in the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church’s free English-as-a Second Language (ESL) classes.
As part of its community outreach, the twelve-week series of classes will be offered twice a week from 10-12 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 13. Classes will run through May 15.
In the past, students who have attended the church’s ESL classes have come from a variety of countries, such as Columbia, Germany, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Korea, South Viet Nam, and Turkmenistan. While this series of classes is designed to focus on students at the beginning level, if students at other levels desire classes in English future classes could possibly be arranged.
“The eagerness to learn and the gratitude students express for the opportunity offered them are strong motivators for us to provide the best possible learning environment for newcomers to this area,” comments ESL instructor Maggie Bloomer.
Interested persons are invited to call Dixie Lee Larson at 378-7079 by Feb. 6 to reserve a position in the program. The Sierra Vista United Methodist Church is located at the corner of St. Andrew’s Drive and Buffalo Soldier Trail. The church website is www.sierravisatumc.org .
